This advertisement's purpose is to recruit new volunteers for the program through universities. It would be most likely displayed in university hallways or could possibly be e-mailed to uni students. I have chosen this text over my flyer because the audience and purpose is more explicit through the use of persuasive/manipulative language to try and "sell" the Sponsor the Potential program whereas my flyer's audience isn't as clear.
How much time do you spend in a week thinking about starting the next assignment? How much time is spent actually doing uni work? When was the last time you decided to help someone else in need? Matthew Talbot Homeless Services, a special work of the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW, has developed a program assisting those in need of homes by guiding them back through to independence. Sponsor the Potential is a program which assists the homeless in seeing their own potential, so that they can make positive steps toward a life they once had or dreamed of. This annual ongoing program begins 15 February 2012.
We need your help. Think about the time you spend for yourself. That amount of time could be utilised for a worthy cause and could potentially be life-changing for an individual. If you’ve ever thought about giving back to your community, this program could be your answer. The program helps people in need using the basic necessities in life; food and shelter and making the transition into employment and education easier for these individuals. Matthew Talbot Homeless Services need volunteers to help with services such as:
- accommodation for single men, women, children and families
- intensive case management for victims of abuse
- education and training as rehabilitation
- meals
You can be a part of all this. Rather than donating money, how about offering up a small amount of time during your week or month? Changing an individual's life is rewarding but volunteer work is also valuable on your CV and will look impressive to your future employers. It will show you didn’t just sit around collecting dust in university and that you do possess initiative.
So, next time you’re sitting at a computer on Facebook or Twitter feeling a teeny bit guilty about not starting that assignment due in a few days, consider people who aren’t as lucky. We need your support. For more information on how to donate or volunteer, visit: http://www.sponsorthepotential.org.au/ or call (02)93571533 for the Homeless Persons’ Team.
