Task: Write about yourself to (i) a boyfriend/girlfriend, (ii) to the class, (iii) to a potential employer.
I.
Dear imaginary boyfriend,
I’m a very
relaxed person and my ideal weekend would consist of hanging out with my
friends at a bar or going to see some live music. I enjoy most psychological
thriller films and indie drama’s, specifically films by Wes Anderson. Attending
musical events and festivals are my favourite hobbies; I am into the trance,
electronic, experimental and the dream pop genre. I watch a fair bit of
television including shows such as Mad Men, Six Feet Under, Community, Cougar
Town, etc. I would like to travel more but because of economic circumstances, I
haven’t been overseas in a couple of years. I don’t see myself living in
Australia for my entire life and would like to dabble in living in other
countries. I prefer colder weather over heat because of the fashion options
available in the winter. I hate children. For now, I wouldn’t want children in
the near future. However, I do love my family dearly. I am especially close
with my older brother. I’m not a very open person and it does take a while to
gain my trust but when you do have my trust, I’ve been known to be very loyal.
II.
My name is
Samantha and I am a big fan of Seinfeld and other 90s comedies. I am a third
year student studying advertising and international studies. I have a part time
job working as a retail assistant for Witchery. When I do have free time I like
to watch television or go to music festivals or gigs. My favourite band is
Beirut and I believe Armin Van Buuren is a musical genius. So, I guess you
could say my music taste is quite dynamic. I still live with my parents so I
have very little responsibility at the moment, which must mean I’m quite lazy.
This is still to be confirmed. I like savoury foods over sweets. I am a big fan
of easyway and potato chips. Colin Firth is probably the most handsome man
alive. I’m not afraid of spiders but rodents and birds frighten me. I would
like to travel more but I am saving for my year abroad in France next year so I
have not been overseas in a couple of years. I hope to work in advertising
media buying or planning, not just for the parties but for the digital aspect
of the industry.
III.
My name is
Samantha and I am a third year student at University of Technology Sydney
studying public communication/advertising and international studies. I would
like to express my interest in the role of media intern. I am currently working
part time as an assistant manager/casual retail assistant at David Jones but
the skills I have learnt in university are most suited to this role. As an
intern, I would be honoured to be able to experience and observe the many
different roles offered within a media agency. The skills taught in my course
such as advertising principles, brand strategy and creative planning would make
me an ideal person for the role as I would be able to understand certain key
terms and tasks. I have a keen interest in the online market and I believe that
the future of advertising lies within the digital world. Being given the
opportunity to observe a real life agency and its roles and functions within
multimodal campaigns, would be an optimal learning experience. With my part
time role as an assistant manager, I understand the importance of meeting
deadlines and appointments whilst maintaining the stock distribution in a
store. I do have a lot to learn but, with this opportunity, my career path will
be greatly appreciated.
